Cartografías de lo Intangible es una serie de piezas cerámicas que explora los paisajes invisibles que habitamos: memorias, emociones, migraciones, vínculos y experiencias que moldean nuestra identidad sin ocupar un espacio físico. Inspirada por la experiencia de vivir entre culturas y territorios, la serie propone una reflexión sobre aquello que permanece con nosotros incluso cuando los lugares cambian.

A través del diálogo entre distintos cuerpos de arcilla, texturas contrastantes y detalles en oro, las piezas funcionan como mapas imaginarios de la experiencia humana. Las superficies se transforman en territorios donde se entrelazan recuerdos, recorridos y conexiones que desafían las fronteras entre lo interno y lo externo, lo individual y lo colectivo.

Cada obra constituye una cartografía personal: un intento de dar forma a aquello que suele permanecer invisible. Como los mapas, estas piezas no representan el territorio de manera literal, sino que sugieren rutas, encuentros y huellas que invitan al espectador a recorrer sus propios paisajes interiores.

Selva

Selva surge de la observación de los sistemas vivos que conectan el mundo natural: raíces subterráneas, cauces de ríos, micelios y redes orgánicas que sostienen la vida más allá de lo visible. Inspirada en los vínculos entre la Amazonía y los páramos andinos, territorios unidos por los llamados ríos voladores, corrientes de humedad que atraviesan el cielo y conectan ecosistemas distantes, la pieza transforma estas dinámicas en una geografía imaginaria donde las líneas doradas recorren la superficie como caminos, afluentes y senderos que se bifurcan para volver a encontrarse.

El contraste entre las dos arcillas crea un paisaje cambiante que evoca vistas aéreas de bosques, montañas y territorios modelados por el tiempo. Sobre este terreno, el oro funciona como una huella luminosa que revela flujos invisibles: recorridos de agua, memoria y transformación que atraviesan tanto el paisaje como la experiencia humana. Las líneas doradas sugieren conexiones ocultas entre lugares, historias y tiempos distintos, recordándonos que gran parte de lo que sostiene la vida ocurre fuera de nuestra mirada.

Más que representar una selva física, la obra propone una metáfora de los ecosistemas internos que habitamos. Como una red viva y en constante transformación, Selva explora las formas en que nuestras historias, afectos y recuerdos permanecen entrelazados, aun cuando sus conexiones no siempre son visibles. La pieza invita a contemplar aquello que sostiene la vida desde la distancia y el silencio: las corrientes invisibles que unen territorio, memoria e identidad.

Mestiza

Mestiza explora la identidad como un espacio de encuentro, tensión, transformación y continuidad. Inspirada en la diversidad cultural que define a Colombia, la obra reconoce que nuestra historia ha sido moldeada por el diálogo constante entre pueblos indígenas, africanos, europeos y muchas otras comunidades que han contribuido a la construcción de lo que somos hoy. Lejos de entender la identidad como algo fijo o uniforme, la pieza la concibe como un proceso vivo de intercambio, adaptación y creación colectiva.

Dos cuerpos de arcilla se entrelazan para formar una cadena continua que rodea la vasija, evocando vínculos que unen historias, culturas y experiencias distintas sin borrar sus diferencias. Cada eslabón conserva rastros de su origen, pero adquiere una nueva fuerza al integrarse con los demás. La cadena funciona como una metáfora de las relaciones que nos conectan a nuestras raíces, a nuestros territorios y a las personas que forman parte de nuestra historia. Ningún eslabón existe de manera aislada; su resistencia depende precisamente de la diversidad de elementos que lo conforman. La vasija se convierte así en un contenedor de memorias compartidas y trayectorias entrecruzadas.

La obra celebra ser Mestiza no solo como herencia cultural, sino como una forma de habitar el mundo. Migración, encuentro, pertenencia y transformación son procesos que continúan moldeándonos individual y colectivamente. En este sentido, Mestiza propone entender la diversidad no como una diferencia que debe resolverse, sino como una fuente de fortaleza, creatividad y resiliencia. Al igual que los eslabones que rodean la pieza, nuestras identidades se construyen a través de conexiones que nos transforman sin borrar nuestras huellas de origen, recordándonos que la mezcla no implica pérdida, sino la posibilidad constante de evolución.

CARTOGRAPHIES OF THE INTANGIBLE

Cartographies of the Intangible is a series of ceramic pieces that explores the invisible landscapes we inhabit: memories, emotions, migrations, relationships, and experiences that shape our identities without occupying physical space. Inspired by the experience of living between cultures and territories, the series reflects on what remains with us even as places change.

Through the dialogue between different clay bodies, contrasting textures, and gold details, the pieces function as imagined maps of human experience. Their surfaces become territories where memories, journeys, and connections intertwine, challenging the boundaries between the internal and the external, the individual and the collective.

Each work constitutes a personal cartography, an attempt to give form to what often remains unseen. Like maps, these pieces do not represent territory literally; instead, they suggest pathways, encounters, and traces that invite viewers to navigate their own inner landscapes.

SELVA

Selva emerges from the observation of the living systems that connect the natural world: underground roots, river channels, mycelial networks, and organic structures that sustain life beyond what is visible. Inspired by the relationship between the Amazon rainforest and the Andean páramos, territories connected by the so-called “flying rivers,” atmospheric currents of moisture that travel across the sky and link distant ecosystems, the piece transforms these dynamics into an imagined geography where golden lines traverse the surface as pathways, tributaries, and routes that diverge only to meet again.

The contrast between the two clay bodies creates a shifting landscape that evokes aerial views of forests, mountains, and terrains shaped by time. Across this surface, gold acts as a luminous trace, revealing invisible flows: movements of water, memory, and transformation that traverse both the land and human experience. The golden lines suggest hidden connections between places, stories, and moments in time, reminding us that much of what sustains life exists beyond our immediate perception.

Rather than representing a physical jungle, the work proposes a metaphor for the inner ecosystems we inhabit. Like a living network in constant transformation, Selva explores the ways our histories, affections, and memories remain intertwined, even when their connections are not immediately visible. The piece invites contemplation of what sustains life from a distance and in silence: the invisible currents that bind territory, memory, and identity.

MESTIZA

Mestiza explores identity as a space of encounter, tension, transformation, and continuity. Inspired by the cultural diversity that defines Colombia, the work acknowledges that our history has been shaped by the ongoing dialogue between Indigenous, African, European, and many other communities that have contributed to who we are today. Rather than understanding identity as something fixed or uniform, the piece conceives it as a living process of exchange, adaptation, and collective creation.

Two clay bodies intertwine to form a continuous chain that encircles the vessel, evoking bonds that connect different histories, cultures, and experiences without erasing their distinctions. Each link retains traces of its origin, yet gains new strength through its connection to the others. The chain becomes a metaphor for the relationships that tie us to our roots, our territories, and the people who form part of our story. No link exists in isolation; its resilience depends precisely on the diversity of elements that compose it. The vessel thus becomes a container for shared memories and intersecting trajectories.

The work celebrates being mestiza not only as a cultural inheritance, but as a way of inhabiting the world. Migration, encounter, belonging, and transformation are ongoing processes that continue to shape us both individually and collectively. In this sense, Mestiza proposes understanding diversity not as a difference to be resolved, but as a source of strength, creativity, and resilience. Like the links that surround the vessel, our identities are built through connections that transform us without erasing the traces of where we come from, reminding us that mixture does not imply loss, but rather the constant possibility of evolution.
